Knowing where each option sits before you add dressing makes a big difference in how your choices land nutritionally.
Each Sheetz Salad, Explained
Garden Salad
Mixed greens, tomato, cucumber and shredded carrots are all included here. This is the least expensive item on the menu for $4.99. And the Garden Salad has just 120 calories pre-dressing making it the lightest of all items available.
I’d recommend ordering this salad to accompany your sub or sandwich since it gives a nice boost of volume and fiber without adding too many calories. But if you order it alone, you might find that it’s less than satisfying.
Grilled Chicken Salad

The Grilled Chicken Salad contains mixed greens, grilled chicken breast, and cheese. It clocks in at around 350 calories with 40g of protein – making it one of the best macro-balanced options across the entirety of the Sheetz menu.
This is probably the go-to order if you’re aiming to keep things light but still have some fullness (without feeling stuffed). The grilled chicken ensures that you don’t take in too much fat while also giving you an appropriate amount of macronutrients to be satisfied. If you want to up the ante, adding some cheese will ensure all the other elements balance out nicely.
If you’re looking for a relatively healthy yet satisfying meal, grabbing this dish and topping it off with either a balsamic or sesame ginger dressing makes for a great option. This is also within reach of being less than 500 calories total.
Caesar Salad with Chicken
Romaine topped with grilled chicken, shaved Parmesan and croutons tossed in Caesar dressing. This one’s pretty good too! You could eat the base alone for about 450 calories and then add some more calories depending on how much Caesar dressing you order (we had about 467 calories for each serving).
You definitely get your money’s worth here – great flavors and big portions of food. If I were to eat this dish again I would ask for the dressing on the side and just have half of that though because otherwise those calories will blow out your diet!
Spicy Chicken Caesar
This recipe sticks to the traditional structure but adds some heat. Spiced chicken is grilled, while romaine, parmesan, and croutons form the base (that’s just 820 calories, by the way). This version offers a bit more complexity than the average Caesar—although I’m still not sure why we don’t see more options for this dish that aren’t “better” versions of a classic.
The spice helps cut through the richness of the dressing without making things feel too heavy, even with the calorie count. I’d stick with this option rather than the standard Caesar if you want more complexity in your flavors.
California Cobb Salad
If you’re looking for an expensive salad ($9.99), look no further than the California Cobb. With fresh greens, grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, hard-boiled egg, and peppers, you get an entire meal with quite a few ingredients (totaling 880 base calories). While the avocado does up your fat content a bit (and these are mostly unsaturated fats), if you don’t feel like tracking every single gram, we’d say this is one of the best in terms of flavor variety and texture contrast offered by all the different ingredients.
While ranch dressing can be found on the salad as well, it will add substantially to the calorie total. A lighter vinaigrette also works very well without fighting against the rest of the flavors.
Southwest Chicken Salad
Greens, grilled chicken, black beans, corn & cheese with Southwestern seasoning.
At just 420 calories, this dish falls into the middle range but still offers up plenty of flavor so you won’t feel guilty about eating it regularly.
Beans are high in both fiber and plant-based protein something most salads miss out on completely. If you’re looking for a way to cut back on your meat consumption without committing fully to vegetarianism, this dish would be an excellent choice for doing so.
Italian Salad
We’ll start with Ham, Pepperoni, Black Olives, Banana Peppers and Shredded Mozzarella, all piled high over crisp Romaine with an Italian Vinaigrette. This isn’t light by any stretch the 770 calories come from all the cured meats and cheese. But this makes for a hearty and delicious meal that will satisfy anyone who wants to go out to eat without feeling bad about it. I mean… what’s more “diet” than having a nice deli style meal in salad form?
Chef Salad
Our Ham Turkey Cheese Hard Boiled Egg and Lettuce salad (Chef Salad) has tons of protein sources for its calorie count it’s packed with ham, turkey, cheese, hard boiled eggs and lettuce. At just 400 calories this sandwich delivers about 25g of protein from several different sources.
Taco Salad
I ordered crisp lettuce topped with seasoned ground beef, cheddar cheese, tortilla chips, tomato, and sour cream with salsa. This dish comes in at just 340 calories (a relatively good calorie count for many other items) but has only 7 grams of protein (unusually low because we’re adding ground beef). If I were to eat this as an appetizer instead, I’d definitely want more protein.
This is really best when you think about it as a lunch item that’s very flavor-forward rather than one that’s specifically focused around protein. You’ll find that there are plenty of carbs here too thanks to the addition of the tortilla chips.
Steak N Fryz Salad
Not exactly healthy, but still, there’s good stuff here. It has sliced steak, golden french fries, cheese, and lettuce. And yes, this thing clocks in at over 1,080 calories with a fat content of 89 grams. Yeah…this isn’t as much healthier than my loaded burger, either.
But if you’re really hungry and just don’t feel like going through the whole process of ordering a burger and then realizing two hours later while browsing the snack aisle, this will actually satiate your appetite. You get some great tasting steak (tender and well-seasoned), and the addition of the fries gives it a unique texture unmatched by anything else on the salad menu.
Greek Salad
The Romaine, feta cheese, kalamata olives, and tomato are all standard ingredients that will satisfy anyone who orders this salad. For just $6.99 and at 300 base calories, it’s one of our better picks for those looking to stick to a vegetarian diet.
Though we always recommend adding more healthy fats, these two ingredients give the meal its necessary balance without the need for heavy dressings. If you prefer, simply drizzle your favorite olive oil and squeeze some fresh lemon juice over the top! (Balsamic can work wonders, too.)
Sheetz Salad Dressings: What They Actually Add
Dressings are where most people unknowingly double or triple their calorie count. Here’s what each option adds per serving:
| Dressing | Calories per Serving |
|---|---|
| Balsamic Vinaigrette | 90 |
| Sesame Ginger | 130 |
| Italian Vinaigrette | 170 |
| Honey Mustard | 260 |
| Ranch | 391 |
| Caesar | 467 |
| Bleu Cheese | 1,035 |
Bleu Cheese at over 1,000 calories per serving is worth paying attention to. If you’re ordering the Garden Salad at 120 calories and adding Bleu Cheese dressing, the dressing has more than eight times the calories of the salad itself.
Ranch and Caesar are the most popular pairings, but also the heaviest. For most salads, balsamic or sesame ginger will maintain the flavor without the caloric weight. If you do want ranch, consider asking for it on the side and dipping rather than pouring.
How to Order a Custom Salad Through the MTO System

The MTO (Made-To-Order) system is what separates Sheetz from every other convenience store. You’re not choosing from a set of pre-made options sitting behind a glass case you’re building your meal from scratch, fresh, every time.
Here’s how the salad ordering process works:
- At the in-store kiosk or through the Sheetz mobile app, navigate to the Saladz section under the MTO menu.
- Select your base salad or choose to build your own from the custom option.
- Choose your protein grilled chicken, steak, shrimp, or no protein.
- Add toppings from the available list, which typically includes croutons, olives, jalapeños, bacon bits, guacamole, hard-boiled egg, banana peppers, and shredded cheese.
- Select your dressing. You’ll see calorie counts listed next to each option.
- Review your order, confirm, and pay through the kiosk or app.
- Pick up at the designated MTO counter, usually within a few minutes.
The app version has one advantage over the kiosk: you can save your custom order as a favorite and reorder it in seconds on future visits. If you’ve found the right combination, that feature alone is worth downloading the app for.
Best Sheetz Salad for Your Specific Goals
Not every salad fits every need. Here’s a direct guide based on common dietary goals:
Best for low calorie: Garden Salad with balsamic dressing. You’re looking at around 210 calories total genuinely light for a full food service item.
Best for high protein: Grilled Chicken Salad. 40 grams of protein at 350 base calories is the best protein-to-calorie ratio on the menu. Add a boiled egg as a topping for another 6 grams.
Best for keto / low-carb: Greek Salad or Grilled Chicken Salad, both with ranch or Caesar dressing and no croutons. Skip the beans and corn if you’re modifying the Southwest option. The Chef Salad without croutons also works well.
Best vegetarian option: Garden Salad, Greek Salad, or a custom build with eggs, cheese, and extra vegetables. The Greek Salad is the most satisfying vegetarian choice without customization.
Best for a full meal: California Cobb or Steak N Fryz Salad. Both deliver enough calories and substance to function as a proper meal, not a side.
Best for someone who doesn’t usually like salads: Taco Salad or Italian Salad. These don’t taste like traditional salads they lean on familiar comfort food flavors wrapped in a greens-based format, which makes them an easier transition.
Customization Add-Ons and How They Affect Nutrition
Beyond the signature salads, the MTO system lets you modify nearly every element. Common add-ons and their approximate calorie impact:
- Croutons: +50–80 calories
- Bacon bits: +45 calories
- Guacamole: +60 calories
- Extra cheese: +70–100 calories depending on type
- Hard-boiled egg: +80 calories
- French fries (as a topping): +115 calories
- Jalapeños: negligible calories
- Banana peppers: negligible calories
- Sunflower seeds: +80 calories
The low-calorie add-ons jalapenos, banana peppers, extra vegetables, hot sauce are where you can improve flavor without meaningfully affecting your total. Seeds like sunflower add healthy fats and crunch without dramatically changing the nutritional profile.
Common Mistakes People Make When Ordering Sheetz Salads
Pouring the dressing directly instead of requesting it on the side. Once it’s on, you use all of it. Dressing on the side lets you control how much actually goes on the salad.
Underestimating the Steak N Fryz Salad’s calorie count. At over 1,000 calories before dressing, it’s a full meal treating it as a lighter alternative to a burger misses the point.
Skipping the protein on a custom build. A salad without protein won’t keep most people full for more than an hour. Even a simple egg or a small portion of grilled chicken changes that equation significantly.
Not using the app for allergen information. The Sheetz app lets you filter by allergen and see exactly what’s in each item before you order. If you have dietary restrictions, this is the most useful tool on the platform.
Choosing the Caesar salad without accounting for Caesar dressing. The salad itself is reasonable. The dressing adds 467 calories. Together, they put you well past 900 calories before any modifications.

Sheetz offers delivery through third-party platforms including DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub, depending on your location. Availability varies by store, so checking the app or a delivery platform first is recommended.
The Grilled Chicken Salad, with its 40 grams of protein at 350 base calories, is the strongest option. Adding a boiled egg and sunflower seeds increases protein and healthy fats without significantly raising calorie count.
Most salad bases and protein options are gluten-free, but croutons are not. Sheetz kitchens are not certified gluten-free environments, so cross-contact is a possibility. The app’s allergen filter is the safest way to navigate your choices before ordering.
